ABOUT BARNABAS SAFE & SOUND

Barnabas Safe & Sound is a young peoples Housing and Support Charity based in the Northumberland market town of Morpeth.

Morpeth has a population of about 13,000 people of which about 1552 are young people aged 10-19. Morpeth has a large rural catchment and young people from the surrounding rural area use the local schools and other local facilities.

Castle Morpeth Borough is relatively well off but the some of the population is adversely affected by poor access to affordable housing and local services. This had a disproportionate effect on young people who do not have their own transport. Young people experiencing housing crisis have significant difficulties.

Barnabas Safe and Sound works in partnership with other agencies to provide high quality services and support for young people. This site has more information about our services and developments and there are application forms you can download.

JOIN US AND SUPPORT US

"Join Us" is our campaign for members of the community to be a part of our efforts to support young people by becoming members. We have recently printed "Join Us" postcards which can be completed and returned to register for membership. Membership is free to individuals and organisations supporting our objects. Members will recieve a regular newsletter informing them of our activities, achievements and how to get involved. Members will be invited to attend our AGM and are entitlend to vote.

"Support Us" is our campaign to increase our activities through gifts from the community. This has been prompted by unsolicited gifts from generous community members over the past year in response to our efforts to raise £1million to purchase and develop a new town centre facility which will be a centre of activity and support for young people. We hope you will support us. We have recently printed "Support Us" postcards which can be completed and returned to pledge gifts to Barnabas Safe & Sound.

YOUR SUPPORT CAN MAKE A REAL DIFFERENCE

We need to employ a new Youth Work Manager to take forward our successful Youth Development Project which aims to support the personal and social development of young people at risk of exclusion in Morpeth. The manager's role is increasingly important as we develop new facilities and increase our activities. This will cost us about £30,000 per year. We need to find :

  • 100 people who are willing to gift £10 per month (£12,000 total) and
  • 50 people who are willing to gift £20 per month (£12,000 total)

If these donations are gift aided then we can claim an additional £6,720 from HM Revenue and Customs taking the Grand Total to £30,720 (Thank You Darling!)

May be you can't stretch to £10 per month but would consider gifting a smaller amount.

  • 25 people giving £5 per month (£1,500) could help purchase digital media equipment for our new media suite
  • 30 people giving £3 per month (£1,080) could help us give a young person a personal development opportunity

One off gifts can make a difference too. We often place one off gifts into our Welfare Fund which enables us to provide food, electricity and gas when new residents are waiting for benefits to come through.

Maybe you can help us to make this happen.

REGULAR  OR ONE OFF GIVING

Please consider supporting our work through making a donation.

1. GIVE BY CHEQUE

If you would like to support us through making a donation please make cheques payable to Barnabas Safe & Sound and send them to our postal address (top left of this page). Please print your name and address on the back of cheques so we can acknowledge reciept - this is really important because we love to acknowledge reciept of your gifts and to keep in touch with our donors

2. GIVE BY STANDING ORDER

If you are considering making a regular donation you can set up a standing order from your bank for any amount you choose. Standing Order forms can be downloaded here. Unfortunately we are too small to be able to offer Direct Debit payments.

3. GIVE SECURELY ONLINE

You can now give securely on line to Barnabas Safe & Sound through the MyCharityPage.com Website. (Credit and Debit Card payments are subject to a 2.75% card handling fee). Follow the link or go to the website and search for "Barnabas". You can then either donate or fundraise for Barnabas. Gift Aid can also be collected through this website withouth sending us a separate statement. If you would like to fundraise please contact us first to see if we can be of assistance.

GIFT AID

If you are a tax payer then gift aid is a great way to increase your donation. Basically how it works is that you give us permission to claim back the tax that you have paid on the money you have donated. Your £1 donation could be worth £1.28 to us (where tax is 28 pence in the pound). To enable us to claim gift aid you need to give us your permission. The easyest way of doing this is to download, sign and return a gift aid statement.

POINT OF SALE COLLECTION BOXES

Barnabas Collection Boxes We have puchased 50 collection boxes which with the support of local businesses will help to generate valuable unrestricted income. We need volunteers to help manage our collection boxes. Full Training will be given in line with Institute of Fundraising Codes of Practice.

7 collection boxes are currently out in the local community and Our Target for 2009 is to increase this to 50 by the end of June and eventually involve 100 local businesses in generating donations by the end of December. If each collection box raised £10 per month this could raise £12,000 per year is all the boxes were being collected reguarly.

ACT TODAY

Often people intend to give but don't get round to it. If you would like to give go for it! If you can't that's ok but thanks for considering and taking an interest!

During 2008 we were flooded! Link to Flood Photos

We got a way with it compared to other people in Morpeth however our Supported Housing has suffered from 1 foot of flood water as a result of the Wansbeck River flooding on Saturday 7th  September. Our Accommodation in Morpeth is therefore currently out of action. The latest news is we expect to have posession of the property by June 2009. Mean while our Pegswood Accommodation is operational, we have secured 2 new units of accommodation in Ashington and we are investigating possibilities for providing Supported Housing elsewhere in Northumberland. Please countinue to submit applications for support.
