More Than A Roof Surprised

AccommodationThe Supported Housing Project offers temporary, furnished accommodation with support

provided by our staff to help youngpeople become more independent.  In addition to signing an occupancy agreement we expect residents to agree with support staff, an individual action plan with realistic goals aimed at increasing independence and participating in learning, employment or training.  We will help our residents to find their own tenancy usually after a stay of 9-12 months.

Where is the Supported Accommodation?

Our Supported Accommodation is in Morpeth, Pegswood and Ashington.  This consists of a three bedroom shared house in Morpeth ,2- 2 bedroom houses in Ashington and four self contained bedsits in Pegswood.

Who is the Supported Housing Project aimed at?

Our Supported Accommodation is aimed at 16-25 year olds who would benefit from a period of support and who are willing to agree to an action plan aimed at getting into education, employment or training and gaining greater independence.  If you think you do not need any support - the Supported Accommodation Project is probably not suitable for you.

How does support work?

Its simple - PLAN>DO>REVIEW...

Plan. Our support workers will meet with you and help you design your own support plan. We will discuss with you what is working and what is not working in your life. You tell us how you would like your life to be. We discuss in more detail with you using the "Outcomes Star" tool to identify what changes are needed to make the difference that you want. We will help you to identify small steps, changes or outcomes that will help you move forward towards your goal.

Do. In order to achieve your goal you will need to put in some time and effort, we will also put in time and effort, other agencies may be able to put in some time and effort.

Review. We will review your support and achievements periodically using the "Outcomes Star" tool to identify, whats changed, whats working,  and how satisfied your are with your support plan.

The Outcomes Star tool has been developed by Triangle Consulting  and is promoted by Homeless Link to help people who have experianced housing crisis move towards greater self reliance. It does not focus on one problem but allows us to consider a range of areas in which small changes can help people move towards their goal. Service users like it because it is visual, focusses on positive change and they can see visually how they have progressed.

What are the costs and how do I pay?

The Supported Accommodation costs are broken down into:

* Support Costs which are funded by Northumberland Care Trust, or possibly Social Services if you are a Care Leaver;

* Housing Costs which cover the cost of providing, managing and maintaining your accommodation. You are responsible for these costs, but if you are entitled to benefits, you may be able to claim Housing Benefit for them and

* Personal Service costs (for water, heating lighting and TV) which you will have to pay direct to us.

How do I apply?

We try to keep the accommodation fully occupied - this means that we try and move a new housemate in as soon as the previous housemate moves on.  New residents are selected from a list of applicants who have completed an application form and have met our staff to talk through support needs, risks and expectations.

Phone Kerry Hope, Tony Macdonald or Sandra Miller for an informal chat on 01670 514881 or complete an application form and return it to us.

Application/Referral Form can be emailed out and will be placed here for download soon.
