Members of Barnabas Safe & Sound intend to honour Cecilia Brown,
who was the visionary behind the Morpeth based charity. Cecilia, who was brought up in Morpeth and lives in Stobhill believed that God had given her a vision for a Barnabas Project that would encourage young people who experienced housing crisis to get back into education, training or employment and to achieve their potential. Cecilia supported by her church New Life Christian Centre worked closely with the Community Counciil of Northumberland to pull together a multi agency steering group which eventually established the Barnabas Safe & Sound in 2002. Cecilia has served as a Director since 2002 and is valued for her continuing passion for young people and quiet reassurance in relation to the vision and values of the organisation. Ceciia worked as a classroom support assistant at Castington Young Offenders Institution before retirement. Cecilia has recently been suffuring from ill health which has prevented her from playing as active a role with the charity as she would like. It is proposed to offer her the honorary position of President of the Charity at the Annual General Meeting of the charity in January.
